I just obtained mine. how do I get that big chunky metal piece off the spline to make it seem like it does in the 2nd image. The spline is not exposed. Puzzled. Did I buy the improper item?
A: Take away the castle nut from the threaded portion of the shaft. The blade hub adapter should slide off the spline with a tiny persuasion. Then the spline and the threads will be uncovered.

what is the distinction among the 250179 and the 250001? They seem similar to me.
A: The all round box is the exact same, but the input shaft requirements differ in between the two.
